Accommodations in Yoshino

Beautiful setting at an authentic Buddhist temple, felt very privileged to have been there and taken part in the morning prayers

I’ve been living in Japan for 3 years and stayed in many ryokans. Sakamotoya was by far the most memorable stay. Of course being a Muji House makes everything look beautiful but Sakamoto-san himself is the star here. From the moment he picked us up at the station, the attention to all our needs, the delicious breakfast and dinner cooked by his mom. We are thankful for the opportunity to stay there and wish this beautiful family prosperity and health.

Great location for visiting Yoshino, easy parking, and very friendly staff who helped us plan an early morning visit to the nearby national park. They also went out of their way to give us spoons we were missing. Good common areas, dining room, and great value for money. (There was also a charming cat that wandered into the dining room - the staff apologised but it was a nice surprise.)

We'd just hiked one mountain and had a challenging 12 hour trail ahead of us the next morning. The owner was very accommodating and attentive to our needs, offering a bright, clean and spacious common kitchen that exceeded our needs to prepare dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch.

Kitchen equipped with tools were very helpful as no nearby restaurants open in the evening. Proximity to Kongobuji is exceptional. The host is also very kind.

The location was great. I was carrying a large suitcase from the train station, and there was some uphill terrain getting to the ryokan, but it wasn’t super far, and once was there I was able to store my suitcase in the shed using the padlock code that they shared with me in the pre check in email. That allowed me to walk around and explore for a few hours while I waited for the 4pm check in time. I loved the quiet and peaceful property which was a perfect place to rest during my travels. The bath was also perfect. It’s a shared bath but there were only a few other guests, and I got to use it first. The woman running the property asked me to take only about 15 minutes in the bath, which I probably went a few minutes over because it was so wonderful. Later she brought me a little dessert and was very sweet. I slept perfectly. I loved this experience.

Super convenient, wish we could stay longer, next time will bring grocery to cook good meals for us. Lawson is only five minutes away. Great location! Sauna is a wonderful surprise!

Super clean, very comfortable, exceptional design. The sauna and bath were amazing.

We loved having the whole place to ourselves, including a kitchen. The views in autumn were breathtaking. And we really enjoyed the sauna as well.

Comfortable house that had more room than we needed. Host was gracious and generous with welcome gifts. Communication was good. Local maps and guides were available.

Excellent atmosphere, style, service and food. Six Stars.
