We only stayed for one night, but we really enjoyed the town...
We only stayed for one night, but we really enjoyed the town. The old town is really pretty with a lovely character and great views. There are lots of nice cafes and restaurants there, and it has a vibe of a normal city, not just a touristic one.
The traffic however is a nightmare, not unlike Lima, so getting to the town centre took us twice as long as we planned for.

While we enjoyed our time in Arequipa, we wish we'd had...
While we enjoyed our time in Arequipa, we wish we'd had planned more day trips. We ended up spending five nights there (before and after our trip to Colca Valley) and three days and two nights would have sufficed. There's so wonderful restaurants and museums to see, but the exhaust and dust go to us as well as the incessant traffic. I'd say see the Santa Catalina and the Santa Teresa monasteries and the "Jaunita" museum and the Plaza and a few churches and then visit the Salinas reserva and Colca Valley which are spectacular!
