I found the people in narathiwat to be friendly and never...
I found the people in narathiwat to be friendly and never felt any hostility or in danger though military check points are still about. I was unlucky in my timing because while I was there it was Ramadan and as the town is about 90 percent Muslim it made getting food a bit tricky. If you are looking to get away from the tourists then narathiwat is the place for you. I never saw one other tourist in the 3 days I was there

A place where Malay culture & history still very much original & in tact, safe from external colonial influence. Simple & friendly people and they make great tasting Malay food easily available all over. Easy to drive around. Always felt like home.
