  • Tour through the historic old town of Stralsund

    Hohen Wangelin
The DARSSBAHN, a little train, will take you on a guided tour of Stralsund, starting at the ferry bridge by the fish market in front of the harbor island. As you ride, you’ll pass a skyline of more than 500 listed gabled houses and a number of churches and monasteries. You’ll also see the city’s maritime side, with its small canals, sailing boats and fishing boats clustered around the harbor island. After leaving the waterfront, the train will head towards the Hansa-Gymnasium and pass what is described as the oldest harbour bar in Europe. You’ll move into the narrow streets of the old town and travel past the Scheelehof. In Külpstraße you can take a look at the historic town hall façade, then continue past ponds, city fortifications and ramparts toward the Neuer Markt. After a circuit there, the route carries on to the Heiliggeist Monastery and the Schwedenkai. Along the way you’ll hear numerous explanations of the city’s history in German.
