Watching whales from Knysna will offer a calm, memorable encounter with marine life along one of South Africa’s most scenic coastlines. Knysna’s only permitted close-encounter operator will lead excursions where you’ll learn about the local marine species and the coastline as you look for wildlife. The team is passionate about the area’s prolific marine life and the setting is highly photogenic. You may see Southern Right and Humpback whales, which leave their icy feeding grounds off Antarctica each year and migrate to mate and calve in the warmer Southern African waters. From June through to November or December, migrating whales are commonly sighted as they skirt the coastline on their way to the tropics. Knysna also offers year‑round viewing opportunities, with large pods of dolphins and regular sightings of Bryde’s whales. Along the way, you’ll hear about the animals’ behaviours and migration patterns, and have the chance to observe them in their natural environment rather than in captivity.

  • Knysna Ziplines Tour

    Plettenberg Bay
This multi-cable zipline tour in South Africa is described as one of the longest and highest in the country. As you move through the course, you will experience several long, elevated runs that showcase the scale and height of the zipline setup. The emphasis is on the length and altitude of the cables, so you will notice extended rides and high platforms as key parts of the experience. Great care has been taken to design the tour so it provides a memorable experience. Along the way, the multi-cable format will give you a variety of zips rather than a single run, letting you experience different speeds and lengths across the course. The focus is on enjoying the continuity and scale of the zipline rather than on a single highlight, and the overall arrangement aims to leave a lasting impression.
