El Quetzal de Mindo marks the beginning of the Ruta de Cacao (Chocolate Route) in Ecuador. At this artisan, small-batch chocolate facility you will see the entire process of making chocolate, from the cocoa tree through to the finished product. The visit begins at the cocoa tree, where you may taste fresh fruit, and continues as you move through each stage of production so you can observe how raw beans become chocolate.
Along the way you will see the techniques used at a small-scale operation and how traditional methods are applied. The experience finishes with a tasting that includes a variety of chocolate, their chocolate barbecue sauce, chocolate tea and, of course, their world-famous brownie.
