Welcome to Alcala de Henares, a city with more than 2,000 years of history. On this guided walk you will be accompanied by local, native and certified guides who will explain the town’s layers of history — from the coexistence of the “3 Cultures” to the city designed as the first university by Cardinal Cisneros and the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes. The route begins in the quiet corner of Plaza de las Bernardas and finishes at the University of Alcala, so you will get a sense of the city’s past as you move through its streets.
Along the way your guide will point out the Archbishop’s Palace and the Magisterial Cathedral, lead you down the historic Calle Mayor and into Plaza de Cervantes, and show you landmarks such as the Corral de Comedies and the Chapel of the Hearer. You will also see the Casa Natal de Cervantes and more notable sites; when monuments are open you may enter them, while at other times they will be viewed from the outside. The tour is kept small — visits are limited to 20 people — and includes curious anecdotes, clear explanations and a short final game to round off the experience.
