At the Tomàs Mallol Cinema-Collection Museum you’ll enter a permanent, non-profit institution open to the public as a space for scientific, cultural and recreational participation. The museum traces its origin to the City of Girona’s acquisition of the Tomás Mallol Collection of cinematographic and pre-cinematographic objects on 28 January 1994. It operates with a public service aim, contributing to society and its cultural development.
As you move through the displays, you’ll encounter collections that conserve, investigate, interpret and exhibit the history of the moving image and of cinema. Along the way you’ll see original cinematographic and pre-cinematographic objects and learn how images were represented before the advent of cinema, and about the technical processes that led to the invention of the cinematograph in 1895. The museum’s layout and exhibits are organised to favour understanding and knowledge, so you can explore both the cultural context and the technological evolution behind early moving images.
