10 minutes from Chinon, Château du Petit Thouars is a family-run estate where history and wine come together. You will begin with a guided walk through the vineyard, planted with Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, and then move to the château’s 15th‑century troglodyte cellar. Back in the château courtyard you will enjoy a wine tasting with explanations. The tour and tasting may be shared with other visitors.
After the tasting, your private picnic awaits at a beautifully set table prepared just for you — an invitation to slow down and savour. The lunch is generous and carefully assembled, typically including fresh salads, deli meats and cheeses, and a local Chinon dessert, paired with a bottle of the estate’s wine. Dietary requirements and allergies are happily accommodated for a small supplement. In cooler months you will be seated in a candlelit, vaulted indoor space with sheepskins and blankets. The experience is hosted by the Count and Countess, whose family have owned and cared for the estate since 1636.
