Duration: 4 hours - 5 hours

You will cross Marseille’s southern districts on a walk that moves from leafy parkland down to sea-side villages. The route takes you through Parc Pastré, a natural area spread over several hectares where Aleppo pines, oaks, laurels, thyme and a variety of juniper grow alongside the Marseille canal. Along the way you will climb through the park to the goat neck at the top of the cross. The ascent is not very difficult, though you may need to use your hands in places. At the summit you will have time for a picnic and to enjoy a wide panorama — one of the best views over Marseille, the Phocaean city.

The return descent passes through a section described as flaws, where some exposed passages at first will demand your full vigilance. After a few minutes the path opens into caves and the vegetation begins to change. You will approach Callelongue from above, which makes for a striking perspective, and then continue on foot to Les Goudes to relax by the coast. Along the route you will see varied natural features and coastal outlooks as the landscape shifts from wooded park to rocky shore.
