At the Saint Patrick Centre in the medieval town of Downpatrick, you’ll encounter the world’s only permanent exhibition devoted to St Patrick. Newly renovated, the display presents Patrick’s story largely in his own words, with narration by Oscar‑nominated Ciaran Hinds. As you move through the exhibition, you’ll follow his life from boyhood in Roman Britain, through his abduction by Irish pirates, to his escape from slavery on Slemish Mountain.
Along the way, bold graphics, sculptures and a mix of video and audio techniques bring episodes of his life to life. A new IMAX cinema is part of the experience, and the exhibition also explores the wider influence of Irish missionaries across Dark Age Europe. The centre sits beside St Patrick’s grave in Downpatrick, so you’ll be able to connect the stories you see inside with the historic setting outside.
