At The Dracula Experience in Whitby you’ll follow the story of Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula and the town’s link to his arrival in England. The tour combines animated scenes, electronic special effects and live actors to bring the tale to life and to show how the novel connects to real places in Whitby.
Along the way you’ll encounter the dramatic episode of the Russian schooner The Demeter, which ran aground in Whitby harbour on Tate Hill Sands in 1885. The crew were found dead, the captain lashed to the helm, and a huge black dog was seen to leap ashore and run up the 199 steps towards Whitby Abbey. That dog is described as one of the many forms a vampire might take, signalling that Count Dracula had reached England. The attraction uses visuals, effects and performers to recreate these moments and their eerie atmosphere.
