Whitby Abbey has inspired visitors for nearly 1,500 years, and you'll follow in the footsteps of artists, writers and religious leaders as you explore the site. The soaring gothic ruins rise above the town and offer dramatic sea views. As you move through the cloisters and around the stone arches, you'll sense why the place has long attracted creative and spiritual visitors.
This year there's more to see. You can uncover centuries of history with the new interactive guide and visit the revamped museum to find out more about how the abbey inspired Caedmon, the first named English poet, and Bram Stoker, author of Dracula. Along the way you'll learn about the abbey's place in local and literary history and see exhibits that explain its significance.
The entrance to the abbey is fully accessible. In the visitor centre you'll find improved facilities and a bigger shop, making it easier to finish your visit with a souvenir or a guidebook.
