Duration: 2 hours - 4 hours

Starting from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon area, you’ll travel by 4x4 towards Breiðamerkurjökull on the edge of Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. Along the way you’ll leave the shorelines behind and step onto the ice for a guided glacier hike. Your guide will lead you to the most striking blue-ice feature available that day — this may be a cave, a tunnel or a canyon — and you’ll have time to move through and around these natural formations while taking in wide glacier views.

Certified glacier guides assess conditions daily and choose the safest, most impressive places to visit. They often access less crowded areas and maintain high safety standards, and the tour is run by Local Guide to allow flexibility in what you see. Ice caves and blue-ice formations are natural and constantly changing, so specific locations and features will vary. No previous glacier experience is needed, but a reasonable level of fitness is required to enjoy the hike comfortably.
