Just outside Reykjavík you will visit Raufarhólshellir, one of Iceland’s longest and best-known lava tubes. The cave is accessible year round and offers a chance to walk the same path where molten rock once ran. As you move through the tunnel, you will see features formed by that flow and learn about the inner workings of a volcanic eruption, tied to the Leitahraun event that occurred approximately 5,200 years ago.

Platforms and lighting have been installed to improve access and visibility as you explore the passage. The experience includes all necessary equipment, so you can focus on the cave itself and the geological story it tells.
