Beginning at Piazza Castello, you'll see the main monuments clustered in the square and visit the ruins of the Doric Temple of Poseidon, dating to the 6th century BC. Two surviving Doric columns testify to the ancient Magno‑Greek temple that once stood there.
You will then visit the Aragonese Castle, inside which there is the Navy. The castle’s first tower was built by the Byzantines in the 11th century and, over the centuries, the structure was expanded to its present form. Very close to the castle you will pass the revolving bridge, a symbol of Taranto that links the island of Borgo Antico with the peninsula of Borgo Nuovo. About 90 metres long and inaugurated in 1887, the bridge spans a large navigable canal that unites the Mar Grande with the Mar Piccolo.
The experience ends with a visit to the Cathedral of San Cataldo, originally built by the Byzantines in the second half of the 10th century and remodelled with a Baroque façade in the mid‑1700s.
