I'm Catia, your host, and together you will discover Venetian traditional food through my family recipes and their history. You will visit our historical market, one of the oldest in Europe. As you move through the colourful stalls, you will see fresh fruit, vegetables and spices while I tell you about the market's past and its role in local life.
After the market you will come to my home and make pasta from scratch. You will work on the typical pasta called Bigoli, using an ancient press known as the Bigolaro — a kind of press invented in the 1600s. You will be welcomed with cicchetti, a Venetian appetizer, and later you will make tiramisù, the well-known dessert that was invented in my region. Along the way you will learn family tips and the stories behind these recipes as you cook and taste traditional Venetian flavours.
