You’ll begin at the iconic Trevi Fountain, the largest Baroque fountain in the city, where you can take in the setting and make a wish before heading below ground. The tour takes you about 9 metres beneath Rome’s surface to the Vicus Caprarius archaeological area, an underground complex often called the “City of Water.”
As you move through the site with a professional guide, you’ll explore the three sections of the antiquarian and hear why this area earned its watery nickname. The guide will explain the discoveries made during excavation, including precious polychrome marble coverings, the famous head of Alessandro Helios, a hoard of around 800 coins and the spatheia — special African amphorae once used to transport oil.
