In this hands-on experience in Japan you will make a pair of wooden chopsticks from start to finish. You will shape the wood, smooth it with sandpaper and apply natural oil to bring out a fine, lasting shine. The finished pair is yours to take home as a personal souvenir and a reminder of your time in Japan.
Along the way you will learn about the role chopsticks play in Japanese food culture. They have been used in Japan for more than 2,000 years and are typically made of wood with a thin, pointed tip that helps pick up small pieces of food. Chopsticks are often given as gifts in Japan because they symbolise good relationships and connection between people.
Groups of up to six people can join the experience. If you don’t mind waiting a little, the host may be able to accommodate groups larger than six — please contact them for details.
