In a local instructor’s home in Osaka, you’ll take a hands-on cooking class that introduces you to the flavours of Japanese home cooking. You will prepare the city’s iconic okonomiyaki as the main course, accompanied by miso soup made from scratch. Along the way you’ll learn the basic techniques for building a miso soup and how to balance its flavours to pair with the main dish.
Okonomiyaki is an Osaka specialty and the city is often praised as Japan’s food capital. The dish is a savoury, filling pancake that typically includes cabbage, flour, egg, pork belly slices and dried bonito flakes. After enjoying your meal, you will taste whisked green tea (matcha) and savour a taiyaki, the popular fish-shaped waffle commonly found on Japanese streets. The class focuses on practical skills and tasting, all within the welcoming setting of a local home.
