This hands-on workshop introduces Moroccan artisanal traditions with a focus on wool. You will enjoy mint tea and local cookies as you hear about the materials and techniques that shape traditional weaving in Morocco. The relaxed start gives you a sense of the culture behind the craft.
You will then practise at a traditional Moroccan loom with a professional, friendly Maalem who will teach basic weaving terminology and techniques. Along the way you may try out different motions and patterns under guidance. If you wish, you can spend additional time to work on a personal handwoven piece and take it home. Bear in mind that completing a larger item such as a full 1 m² piece requires considerably more time than this session typically covers, so the workshop is best suited to learning core skills and creating a smaller keepsake.
