At the Barza Alba S.A. (The White Stork) facility in Balti, Republic of Moldova, you will learn about Divin — a traditional Moldovan brandy produced by double distillation from local wine. The distillates are aged for at least three years in oak barrels, following the traditional method. The name “Divin” comes from the Romanian phrase “din vin”, meaning “from wine”, and it also carries the meaning “divine”; it is said that a large part of the distillates evaporate and “go to the sky” as a kind of sacrifice to the quality obtained.
Barza Alba began its activity in 1944 as the Factory of Wine and Brandy in Balti and is one of the largest producers of Divin in the country. A company sommelier will guide you through the history and unique qualities of Brandy, Divin and rachiu from apple cider. Along the way you will be shown how to distinguish different types by their aromas, colours and tastes, with clear explanations about what to look for and why these characteristics matter. The experience is informative and rooted in local tradition, providing a direct look at Moldova’s long-standing spirit-making craft.
