The Nevidio Canyon is a dramatic, narrow gorge carved into the rock and known as the last canyon conquered in Europe (1965). You will move through a cascade of waterfalls and tight passages between sheer rocky walls. The canyon begins at about 60 metres deep, stretches for roughly 4 kilometres and in places narrows to less than half a metre at the bottom. There are spots where passage is possible only by going under or even through the rock, giving a close-up sense of the canyon’s scale and geology.
Nevidio forms part of the River Komarnica, which springs at the foot of the southern slopes of Durmitor in Dobr Dol. Along the way you’ll learn how the Little Komarnica meets the river Pridvorica near the village of Duži to form the Grand Komarnica, which continues through the canyon and finally enters the artificial Piva lake created by the construction of the Mrtinje hydroelectric power plant. The expedition plan includes a group meeting and equipment check before departure, followed by a return to camp and lunch afterwards.
