Monkey Mountain is a rewarding climb near Sayulita and Punta de Mita. As you make your way up, the path is challenging at times, so it can feel like a good workout while still being suitable for families who are prepared for a demanding trail. At the summit you will be rewarded with a wide 360-degree view that makes the effort worthwhile and usually leaves people smiling at the end.
There are two main routes to the top. The Higuera Blanca approach from Punta de Mita is the easier option, while the Patzcuaro route from Sayulita is the tougher climb. Humidity in summer may make the hike more strenuous, so you may prefer to choose a cooler part of the day. If the weather is good, the climb is typically offered and enjoyed from either side, depending on how challenging you want the experience to be.
