This trip focuses on chasing Roosterfish (known locally as Pez Gallo) in the waters off Baja California Sur. You will fish from a specialised panga set up for fly anglers and spend your time watching shallow water where Roosterfish hunt and slash at bait. On a strike you may hear the captain shout “CAST” as sardines and saltwater fly; a powerful animal—sometimes reaching around 60 lb with long fins—may slash in front of you. If you do connect and land one, you will feel the strength of the fight and, should you release it, watch it swim away.
Your captains were born here and learned to fish from their fathers and grandfathers. They have guided fly anglers for more than 30 years, and will bring local knowledge to your outing. The panga is designed for fly fishing, with a large live well and a forward casting area that gives you plenty of room to manage your line and double-hand strip your fly. An owner-hosted or instructed option is available, so you may choose additional guidance during your time on the water.
