The Upper Dolpo Trek takes you deep into northwest Nepal and into Shey-Phoksundo National Park. You will start in Juphal and follow remote trails through Dolpo’s rugged landscape. As you move through villages and across high passes, you will see crystal-clear lakes and wide views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way you will have the opportunity to visit ancient monasteries, meet local people and experience the distinctive culture of the Dolpo region.
This trek is considered remote and strenuous. You should expect rugged terrain, high altitude and long days of hiking, and the trail may not be well maintained in places. You will need a special permit from the government of Nepal, which is not easy to obtain. The route is less-trodden than many other treks in Nepal, so the experience will be one of true remoteness and cultural immersion rather than comfort or convenience.
