The Narphu Valley Trek follows recently built trails into a hidden valley north of the Annapurna circuit. On this route you will cross the demanding high passes of Kang La and Thorong La and travel into wild, little-explored high country. As you move through the landscape, the entrance will feel narrow and forested before opening onto a vast expanse of snow‑capped peaks, ancient villages and high‑altitude settlements.
Along the way you will encounter ethnically Tibetan communities and experience unique Himalayan cultures. The trek combines remote villages, narrow canyons, forests, varied rock formations, gompas and the sight of grazing yaks. You will stay in the upper Manang area and can venture into the remote Narphu region by staying at the winter settlement of Nar. You will also learn that the region was first explored by Tilman in the 1950s and remained restricted to most trekkers until late 2002, so very few westerners have visited compared with other routes. This makes the valley a little‑visited part of the Tibetan Buddhist world, offering a strong sense of remoteness and discovery.
