You will begin at Pico dos Barcelos, a viewpoint that looks out over the bay of Funchal and the surrounding mountains. The route continues upward to Eira do Serrado, sitting at 1,053 metres, where a viewpoint gives you an overview of the parish of Curral das Freiras. The Eira do Serrado viewpoint is reached via a footpath that leaves from Estalagem Eira do Serrado, so you’ll have a chance to follow a short walk and take in the high‑altitude scenery.
Afterwards you’ll descend into Curral das Freiras, a cosy village tucked into the mountains, and spend time exploring its sheltered lanes and views. The experience finishes in the parish of Monte, known for its gardens and for the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, where you can see the parish’s green spaces and religious landmark. Please note there are no excursions on 1 January and 25 December.
