There is so much to see of Qatar beyond the city. You head out of Doha into the northern areas to explore the country’s history, beginning at Al- Khor Harbor. Once a rich centre for the local pearl and fishing industries, the harbour remains a busy port where fishermen work hard to maintain a living connection to the sea. Along the way you’ll visit Al Thakira, a broad expanse of natural greenery framed by mangroves and winding waterways — a striking patch of calm and life in the middle of the desert.
You then travel on to Zubarah Fort, a historic military fort that holds numerous artifacts and stands as a place of significance in Qatari culture. As you move through these sites, you’ll see different facets of Qatar’s past, from maritime traditions to inland heritage, and gain a clearer sense of how history and natural landscape shape the country today.
