In and around Bucharest’s Old Town, you will be guided through the city’s darker history and folklore. As you move through the streets where people gather in the evenings, you may notice strange tales and even the presence of a few uninvited “locals” joining the walk. The area has been inhabited for more than 2,000 years, and the tour draws on that long past to explore deaths, murders and other mysteries that locals still talk about. Along the way, you will hear how the voice of the underworld seems to echo across the city and learn about haunted houses and unsettling places.

The stories will also touch on Romania’s horror mythology, which helped inspire vampire legends. Dracula’s strong connection with the city and its history is part of those tales, and references to him often appear in the commentary. Your guides are knowledgeable in folklore, mythology and the supernatural. They will share these accounts as storytellers rather than performers — they are not in costume and they are not actors staging scary scenes — so the focus stays on history, legend and atmosphere rather than theatrical scares.
