At Bloedel Conservatory, a domed, lush paradise in Queen Elizabeth Park, you will experience the colours and scents of the tropics all year. The conservatory sits atop the City of Vancouver’s highest point and houses a temperature-controlled environment where exotic birds, koi fish and more than 500 tropical plants and flowers thrive. Pathways wind through dense foliage, so you can move close to blooms and watch birds flit between branches. As you explore, you will see a wide variety of plant life and aquatic features that create a vivid tropical setting. Along the way you may notice the different textures, shapes and colours of the plants, and the lively presence of birds and koi adds to the sense of being in another climate. The conservatory was built thanks to a donation from Prentice Bloedel and was dedicated when it opened in 1969 to encouraging a better appreciation and understanding of the world of plants, a purpose that still shapes the experience today.
