The Chopta–Tungnath trek is a 27 km route that leads to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in India. The trail rises into the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand and reaches a highest point at around 3,700 m, so you will be travelling to a notably high-altitude shrine set in mountain surroundings. Along the way you will experience a varied and diverse trek that is considered one of the region’s most exciting. The route is accessible to people with less trekking experience, so it will serve as a good introduction to the beauty of the Indian Himalayas. As you move through the landscape you will eventually arrive at Tungnath and be able to take in the temple’s elevated setting within the Garhwal range. In Srinagar, often called Paradise on Earth, you will glide across the calm waters of Dal Lake in a traditional shikara, with the Himalayas rising around you and floating gardens drifting nearby. As you move through the city, you will wander through the timeless beauty of the Mughal gardens, take peaceful nature walks and explore vibrant floating markets for a local glimpse of life on the water. You will then continue to the hill resort of Gulmarg, a striking all-season destination known for lush green meadows in summer and snow-covered slopes in winter. A ride on the famous Gulmarg Gondola — one of the highest cable cars on Earth — will give you sweeping Himalayan views. Along the way you may choose adventure activities such as skiing and snowboarding, or simply relax and enjoy the natural scenery for a quieter experience.
