High above modern Bergama, you will explore the remains of ancient Pergamon, once one of the ancient world’s leading cultural, political and medical centres. On this full-day small-group tour from Izmir, your guide will meet you at your Izmir hotel and accompany you throughout the day. Travel will be in an air-conditioned vehicle, and your guide will return you to your hotel at the end of the tour.
You will visit the UNESCO-listed Acropolis, where impressive ruins illustrate Pergamon’s role in government, religion, culture and learning. As you move through the site, your guide will explain the significance of the monuments and the city’s history. The tour also includes the Asklepion, the famed ancient healing centre, where you will learn about medical traditions and therapeutic practices from antiquity. Lunch is included and, depending on daily arrangements, may be served at a local carpet workshop or at a restaurant in Bergama.
