This was our second time staying at the inn. Of course, the owners, Satoshi and Elizabeth remembered us and were just as friendly and helpful as our first visit 2 years ago. Satoshi remembered that we weren’t able to find a soba restaurant open on New Year’s day the first time and did research to find one for us. I was so touched by his kindness. There is a new lovely shared bathroom and many new interior design pieces. I’m still in love with the open air bath that can be reserved. It’s such a relaxing, friendly inn with lovely owners. I highly recommend it.

Makoto-san was an excellent host. In addition to Makoto-san, I got to meet his helper who was just passing through for a Christmas work party,, Nohala-san, who usually helps in busy season. I had a fabulous time with these 2. I really enjoyed their company. Classic Japanese hospitality. Makoto-san has a great deal on a little car tour of the area and it made the whole stay perfect. Make sure to do it. He took me to several waterfalls and showed me some of the must see things. He is a helpful, kind host. Because I stayed in late December I mostly had the place to myself. It was great. It was cold but his kerosene heaters were great and kept the temp nice in the room. I would like to visit Makoto-San's air b n b again some time. I think if you like the guest house vibe and enjoy interacting with hosts or guests, this could be the right guesthouse for you because it has a cozy, close quarters feel that allows you to enjoy together. I can imagine that in summer or fall this air b n b will be booked in advance and unavailable if you do not plan well in advance.

We booked a last minute trip to Nikko, this guesthouse was perfect. Great price, comfortable, clean, and parking right next door. It’s close to a train station (not sure which one), and a short ride to the UNESCO temple sites. Beds were comfortable and whole house was very clean!

Food was the highlight of the stay. The host was hospitable and catered to our food restrictions to modify the Kaiseki dinner for us. The private rotenburo was relaxing and a memorable experience. I would have loved to stay a longer.

Emi was such a lovely host -- very sweet, accommodating, and so helpful with suggestions on getting around, places to eat. Even prior to arrival, she was very prompt and helpful with answering questions. I loved her attention to details, from the small snacks she had prepared to the cute eye masks and slippers that she had ready for the guests. It was also very nice that we could socialize (optional) with the other guests, learn origami, and just generally have a good chat at the end of the day. Her home is very clean and neat. Definitely an experience staying at a local Japanese home. ❤️

Lovely, clean and quiet place. Izumi was a great host. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. We had the privilege to see a mother deer with its fawn from our deck, it was spectacular. We highly recommend this beautiful stay.

We loved that it was a family-run hotel (by the sweetest family!), complete with private onsen (with a great system to know when it's free), at a reasonable price.

A very nice quiet family hostel. The common private onsens are excellent and very nice after touristing around Nikko. The location is also very good, a bit far from Nikko station, but at a walkable distance from all the relevant places. It also has a convenience store very close and the buses stops are also close.

Yoshi was a great host. Helped us to set up a great day to Senjogahara and beyond, good recommendations for meals, bus timetables etc. The place is very central but quiet. Enjoyed the photo, Yoshi is an expert, (not our usual thing). So happy.

Very calm environment, quiet and dark at night. The room and living space is comfortable and clean. Near to bus station (3 mins walk) and Chuzenji Lake Bus Terminal (10 min walk, more bus back to Nikko station). There's also a small local supermarket near the hostel, offering cheap bentos and food ingredients. Owner is a guide, so you can learn more about the environment of Nikko.
