Cheap hotels in Matemwe

ALL staff are absolutely delightful. Everyone made us truly welcome. Our room was spacious and clean. The Village and Reef Walk with James was really interesting and so worthwhile. The bar staff and chefs at the Beach Bar were great fun and the waitress and waiters in the restaurant were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble, for anyone. The location was perfect, quiet and relaxing. A few local restaurants around the beach, we tried as many as possible, some in the village itself. Try them, Google maps will give locations, they may look quiet but every one we tried, the people were super friendly and interested in where you come from etc, food takes a little while, but everything is cooked to order. There are a few beach boys about but they are generally friendly.

Zoi Retreat Hotel is a hidden gem. My stay was nothing but WONDERFUL. The staff is amazing: warm, welcoming, and very attentive. From the moment I arrived, I felt cared for and at home. The room was beautifully decorated, very clean, and extremely comfortable, with thoughtful details throughout. The AC worked perfectly, the bed was great, and everything you need is provided. Parking felt safe, there was always electricity (even during local outages), and the Wi-Fi was consistently strong. I was able to monitor my emails easily and stay connected at all times. The beachfront setting is stunning, with umbrellas, lovely views, and the most peaceful sunrises. The pool is amazing, and the entire property feels cozy, serene, and private. Perfect for relaxing away from the crowds. The food tasted amazing and was clearly made with high-quality ingredients; the chef is excellent. The cocktails were great, and I got a massage that was incredible, I highly recommend you book one during your stay, you leave feeling like a new person. Later during my stay, the security team really stood out, they assisted me with a flat tire, which I appreciated. I drove to several other beaches around the island, but Matemwe felt more special and peaceful every time I came back. Zoi Retreat made the experience unforgettable and very special. I would return without hesitation and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar.

It is in front of the beach ⛱️ 😎lot of sunbeds ,shadows, and trees, very clean. Good for rest. The food was very good. all employees were willing to help with any problem or question. Great place to stay.

The gardens are an oasis of tranquility and the perfect backdrop to morning yoga with Maria. Delicious food. Short walk to a quiet beach but you'll find it hard to leave. Perfect hosts, perfect stay.

We loved the experience of staying in a boutique hotel - it truly felt like home after a few days! You leave your room and you reach the pool, the beach, and the restaurant in less than a minute. The rooms are comfy, clean, and nicely decorated. The pool is quite small, but serves the purpose. The location is ideal for a holiday by the sea, whereas all major day trips require at least a 75-minute drive from the hotel. On the other hand, Mnemba Island is just opposite the hotel. The staff are nice and always ready to offer a smile!

The property was at an excellent location and Roxana, the host was super flexible and helpful. She advised us on many many things from the airport transfer to arranging tours and restaurants to visit as well. Even though breakfast was the same every day (toast, eggs, fruit salad) it was always substantial and tasty. The beach is very close with lots of places (hotels, restaurants) to visit and even spend the day at. There is a dog and a cat at the property both being extremely friendly as well. We would certainly go back here if we were to visit Zanzibar again!

Nice barefoot experience walking distance to the beach. Breakfast was really nice and the staff are great and very welcoming. Facilities are new and private. Your own room and you’ll have the place to yourself. WiFi is good too.

The hotel rooms had great architecture. The pool was nice. And it’s right on the beach.

Our family had a wonderful stay at Utupoa. After three nights, we really felt like it was our home away from home. The building is a wonder and itself worth the visit. Joyce and her team were so attentive, personable, and helpful and family-style meals were excellent. Utupoa sits directly on the beach and easily reachable by foot from the village of Matemwe. What a wonderful way for our family to get to know a corner of Zanzibar and to unwind from our adventures. Thank you, Joyce!

The property were good and clean.

Very well thought out property with everything you could possible need. Georgia and Daniel the owners are on sight to help you will anything that you need. The property in a 2min walk from what is probably one of my now favorite beaches in zanzibar. It's of the tourist track so nice a quiet but has a few other properties you can have meals at. The property can arrange everything that you need from transfers to tours. Highly recommend this property. The staff are some of the best trained staff I've met in Zanzibar. The restaurant food was really good and I actually had nearly all my meals there.

Everything, good breakfast, nice accomodation

I have visited Zanzibar before and stayed at a few hotels (large and small) and this is by far my favorite hotel, my kids and I did not want to leave. It was a hidden gem! The staff were very friendly, the owners were always available and very sweet and kind, the food was the best in Zanzibar. It’s a very quiet and lovely getaway. The beach felt like a private beach away from the overbearing Masai and tourists. The hotel was very cozy, authentic and unique. The rooms were spacious, the balcony was stunning and watching the sunrise every day was beautiful, AC was working perfectly, rooms was always clean and they clean twice a day. If you want to relax.. this is the place to stay! The owners and staff quickly became our family. Thank you for the most beautiful stay, we will be back again! Laucin, the host, went above and beyond! We arrive late due to flight delays. He cooked us a wonderful seafood dinner, made arrangements for transportation, snorkeling and dinner another night. Breakfast was delicious and catered to our needs. The pool is wonderful, it is a close walk to the beach if you are looking for ocean. Laucin took care of everything!

The property was clean, customer service was great but need more English speakers, at times it gets hard to communicate clearly.
