Staying in Fort Macleod is a great idea if you want a...
Staying in Fort Macleod is a great idea if you want a central space to visit Lundbreck Falls, Head Smashed In Buffalo jump and even the Frank slide (less than an hour away). There are the usual fast food places, but also local cafes and restaurants. Just big enough to provide everything but small enough to be cozy and private.

I find Fort Macleod a lovely place to visit.
I find Fort Macleod a lovely place to visit. It has pretty good shopping for a small town.
The Red Apple (formerly The Bargain Store) is a great store for bargains. They have a nice little thrift store, and also a variety of fast food places and restaurants. In the summer it is fun to watch the RCMP put on a short production like the musical ride at the Fort in town. There is a nice little local milkshake spot with tasty treats.
They have a hospital, several gas stations, and one of the best, affordable Veterinary clinics in Southern Alberta!

I stayed in Fort MacLeod three weekends in a row.
I stayed in Fort MacLeod three weekends in a row. I stayed at two seperate hotels and the stay was pleasant. I ate at the McDonald's, subway, tim Hortons and dairy queen and they were all good. People were friendly and the town is easy to get around. Lots of little parks to visit .

The town was small and quaint, but very industrial.
The town was small and quaint, but very industrial. I got a feeling that it was a bit rough, then noticed a notorious biker gang show up as I was getting gas. It might have been a coincidence, but it was a bit unnerving. I am not really sure it is a destination location for everyone? But, I guess it is what you are looking for that matters.

The history of the place, the Fort itself.
The history of the place, the Fort itself. Not much of a village but we went for the Fort and its history. Not much choice for eating though but you have to expect that. Very similar to rural Australia in that respect.

Excellent town swimming pool, not a lot of good restaurants . However plenty of sights and really close to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump (opens at 10 am) we were early. good place to spend half a day and then on to other things. Some of the usual fast food places but you can only do that so many times.

Nothing!!!!The hotel was closed when we got there. We tried calling and after an hour we left. It was a dirty dilapidated hotel from the outside and when nobody even was there, we had to leave. Someone finally called when we were halfway to Calgary. He said that he would return our prepaid amount but he wouldn't provide a cancellation number. We have never gotten our money back. We would appreciate getting our money back as this was the fault of the hotel.

I was very pleasantly surprised as my room was recently renovated and looked like a high-end hotel room inside. The staff member at reception was very friendly and helpful. There's a convenience store directly over the road if you need anything, and it's a quieter area of town that keeps the noise level down. Would highly recommend and would happily stay again. Handy to the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and Waterton Lake.

The hotel was close to the fort. Had to go to McDonald's as they had no coffee. .beds were comfortable and clean . There was a benches outside to enjoy the morning sun. Very reasonable cost for night stay.
