Not a whole lot to do in Liberia the town.

Not a whole lot to do in Liberia the town. The city center is worth visiting for the cathedral and the Gunacaste museum. Sodas (local restaurants order the plata del Dia with a drink) are almost half what they cost in tourist areas and you you visit one over McDonald's or the other American fast food options. (3,250 in Liberia, 6,000+ in Tamarindo). Ponderosa Adventure Park was fun. Ubers are very reasonable $10-15 each way to Ponderosa or the airport. Hotel Villa Hermosa was the perfect place to stay. Amazingly friendly and a good breakfast.

Liberia was interesting to see becaue it was new, but I didn't find the town itself that attractive. It was a good place to spend a night because we flew into the airport near Liberia. We were using shuttles to go from place to place in Costa Rica. On return we noticed that if we had rented a car there are interesting places to visit within an hour's drive.

Costa Rica has become more expensive than the US, Liberia super expensive. Car rental doubled the price with a huge lack of transparency, hotels charge double what you would expect, and meals were stressful to afford. There is an old saying, “If someone will pay $20 for a hot dog, charge $20.” Costs Rica charges $30. Not sure how long the con job will last, but my guess is not much longer. I will go to Nicaragua next time.

Liberia is not a very tourist town.

Liberia is not a very tourist town. But a good place to get tours from. We met up with a driver named Edward 506 8973 4470. We hired him for one day to take us to CoCo beach, He dropped us off and picked us up 3 hours late rat a very reasonable cost. We got him another day , the whole day he took us around the northern part of Costa Rica. He said I am at your disposal for the whole day, where ever you want to go. It was excellent.

My review would be for Costa Rica in general it was truly spectacular to enjoy the hospitality of the country. Has the pleasure of staying 5 week did all south of Liberia, to uvita, to Beunos aires,not caratoga to san Vito. There is nothing not to like about your country. Stunning.

We have been to Costa Rica 20 times in the past 25 years. Liberia airport is very convenient and easier to rent a car etc. compared to San Jose. We love that there is a direct flight of only 5 hours from Denver.

The rooms at this hotel surround a lovely inner courtyard. Charming and helpful hotel owner, Edwin, prepared a tasty, traditional Costa Rican breakfast with coffee that we ate in the courtyard. Later we took an Uber to the airport for the first time. Edwin waited with us for the car to arrive and helped us to communicate with the driver. The rooms are simple and small but we had a very good experience.
