There is absolutely nothing to not like about staying at Säynätsalo Townhall - if you know what it is. It's an architectural icon in a small quiet town, filled once again with life by a dedicated caretaker. While international afficionados take the tour, you can actually spend a night or more in one of the apartments - in one of Alvar Aalto's main buildings, one that shows such much about what his architecture, his thought was about. The host is exceptionally friendly (you can buy his very readable book on the building and Aalto in the book store), and there is the fabulous aa-bakery right there for very tasty breakfasts. Easy parking, excellent communications, caring caretaker, apartment with all one needs - plus great walks in this quiet community to the near-by harbour or on more natural trails. A large supermarket is just across the street.
