Location is great, easy walk to town center. Pool was nice as well, extra points for conditioning which was very nice ( and also not common ) considering the extremely hot weather. Receptionist was very nice and patient ( I speak very little French ) and was accommodating.

A beautiful historic building next to a beautiful church , with private secure parking . Perfect welcome from the staff , nothing was too much trouble , maps, directions and Restuarant recommendations. We were upgraded to a “ deluxe” room. It was absolutely beautiful. We didn’t take breakfast as we wanted to stroll through the town to find a local cafe before our onward journey , however, it did look a lovely setting/ seating area and I am sure it would have been amazing, like everything at this hotel.

Angouleme is a fascinating city with so much history to explore. Top sites include the ramparts, cathedral and museum. Its modern day claim to fame is as the birth place of Herge, the famous creator of Tintin. A visit to the museum of Dessin Anime (comic strip art) is definitely worth while. An annual festival dedicated to this art form is a good date for your diary. As a fortified city it is quite hilly in places, something to take into consideration re mobility. If visiting in high seasonal temperatures (can reach top 30's) Would recommend hats and frequent bar/cafe stops!

Lively bar and restaurant vibes in the city centre. Lots of choice for eating or just having a coffee/drink and people watching. Tapas seems to be the favourite for casual eating but there are several really good restaurants for a more formal dining experience. Hotel du Ville and also the cathedral have been really cleaned up since our last visit and look splendid. Theatre and museums worth a visit. Watch out for the cartoon festival and also the spectacular Circuit de Remparts in September. Like many French cities, it's a place for eating, walking and just soaking up the atmosphere.

Character, architecture, choice of restaurants , especially Woondall Bangladeshi restaurant. Cathedral. Plenty to see and do within walking distance of where we stayed. A lively city catering for all age groups. Next time will have time to walk on the ramparts. Angoulême allows you to access other places eg Poitiers and Bordeaux easily .

Angoulême is a beautiful city with the cartoon murals all around. But I didn't know that some places were on top of the hill, like the cathedral, some museums were all down by the mountain. I kind of struggled walking all around because of the heat stroke ( it was 40 degrees). But city buses can save you and take you anywhere you want. The city is good to hang out at night, I tried local beers at a bar and chat with the other tables as a solo traveler.

Angouleme has a lot of charm.

Angouleme has a lot of charm. Plenty of interesting high end restaurants, bars, shops and beautiful period architecture. There is a very good Curry Restaurant there which, although not up to my English expectations, is the best I have been to in France. There was also a very caracterful and cozy bohemian bar which was frequented by the locals ('Le Giraffe') serving good beer (Kwak on draught!) Parking in the town wasn't too difficult but it was January! Lots of one way streets and restrictions so prepare for frustration. Definitely a good place for couples and romantic evenings. There is lots of wall art on the sides of buildings as this town is known for its artists who create much of the 'Bande Dessinees' produced in France. However... This area of France has definitely seen better days and that is quite in evidence outside the town where it is hard to ignore the many boarded -up shops and derelict buildings. A real shame for such a beautiful and historic area.

A comfortable house to spend a few days in Angoulême instead of staying in overpriced hotels. We slept well and enjoyed the quiet neighborhood. The heating was perfect. We have been well received and well taken care of.
