Excellent location, close to the old city. A short walk to all the main sites in the city, shops and restaurants. The hotel is renovated and modern in appearance and equipment. Very comfortable beds, nice room. The hotel is outside the city, easy to reach but just a 5-minute walk from the next tram stop that takes you to the city center in 15 minutes. The breakfast was good for a French hotel, with a decent choice of cold food, scrambled eggs, and fresh-pressed orange juice.

Monumental City of Mustard

Home to Dukes of Burgundy for 4 centuries, Dijon is a magnificent combination of colour and culture. Set on a large square with fountains, the Ducal Palace houses a fabulous fine art museum. You can climb Philippe Le Bon tower here for wonderful views of the multi-coloured tiles typical of the city’s roofs.

Equally as vibrant are the half-timbered facades in the Old Town. The best examples are in cobbled Place François Rude, where relaxed bars and cafes offer good people watching.

On a grander scale is Place Darcy whose Porte Guillaume arch faces a shady park. Dijon’s many green spaces include huge Parc de la Colombière whose central path was considered by Louis XIV the most beautiful in his kingdom. Another popular walk is along Promenade de l'Ouche starting near the hospital and ending at large Kir Lake where you can swim.

This is an evidently wealthy city, so there are plenty of places to shop, but a must-see is Les Halles market, designed by Gustav Eiffel, architect of the tower.

Don’t check out of your Dijon hotel, apartment or B&B without touching the owl on the side of Notre Dame church – use your left hand for good luck. Dijon Airport is a domestic airport, but the city is easily reached by car and train.

We only had an evening in the city as we visited as a stopover on the way home. The city is charming and the architecture was amazing with an old world/gothic feel. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants and , of course, the obligatory visit to the Maille mustard shop. City is easily walkable and compact. We ate at a brasserie near the market hall in the evening which was good value and the area had a great vibe (busy but not overwhelming). We plan to go back to spend some more time and visit some of the attractions.

A Lovely Family Getaway in Dijon

A Lovely Family Getaway in Dijon We recently enjoyed a fantastic short break in Dijon with the family. The area offers plenty of activities and places to visit. We were particularly impressed by the wonderful market hall, which is full of delightful food and drink—the local gastronomy is absolutely first-rate! We ate out at a few local restaurants during our stay and were certainly not disappointed. The Owl Trail is well worth doing and provides a brilliant, interactive way to explore the city (the kids absolutely loved it). Finally, if you have the time, we highly recommend hiring bikes to cycle down to Lake Kir and popping over to the beach for a quick dip. A wonderful trip all round, and we would gladly return!

I loved the mix of old and new buildings.

I loved the mix of old and new buildings. I saw some half timbered houses which are really pretty. I enjoyed the art museum and the old city. I wish I had had more time for exploring.. There is much more to still discover.

I will never not recommend Dijon to anyone travelling in France. It is a beautiful city with incredible food and wine However...40C was a bit brutal...so maybe not anywhere in France during a heatwave

Dijon was very interesting both historically & culinarily. We liked the combination of walking the beautiful streets of the historic center with the abundance of restaurants, coffee shops & culinary shops & delicacies, along side with interesting museums - many of which are free.

Dijon is a very walkable city with lovely old town filled with interesting historical buildings, places to eat, sit at the many terraces for a coffee or anything else. It is full of character. Out highlight was an excellent organ concert at the Saint Benigne church - a magnificent building. The concert was free! Well worth a visit, even if there isn't a concert. Following the brass "owl" tiles on the ground throughout the old city was a great way to get to see most of the interesting and quirky sites in the old town.

Great place for a longer stay. Large rooms with fridge, kettle etc. Better than a usual 3 star hotel that you find in France. Clean, practical, lodern, functional, pefect..there is even a small gym (which I didn't use). Have booked again.....Could be practical if you are travelling by car as there is parking. Short walk from train station. Short walk (10-15 mins) to historical city center. PS Note that you are obliged to clean kitchen unit or you will be charged plus extra charge for housekeeping, if required.

It was very convenient stop for us on the drive to south of France. The hotel is very easy to drive too and it has a secured free parking. Which was what we needed. And it also had great room, super friendly reception staff, easy check in, comfy beds, clean room and very good breakfast. It was a good choice!
