What a strange and special place!
What a strange and special place! I loved walking around in the abbey after it closed to the public. It having such a long and multifaceted history made it quite special. I was sad that the restaurant was closed, as the restaurants in town were a bit (!) disappointing. The room was a bit warm (right under the roof) but cooled down perfectly at night. The breakfast location is one of the most spectacular settings I've enjoyed. Absolutely beautiful. HUGE shout-out to whomever tends the gardens at Fontevraud in general. One bad part was the coffee, it cannot be overstated how terrible the coffee (machines) are. That was a bit sad. Other than that 10/10 recommend spending the extra money on breakfast.

The Abbaye is impressive and fascinating to explore (allow a full day) but if the Modern Art Museum is closed ( as it was during our stay) there isn't a great deal more to see in the town.
Saumur (20 minutes away) is a good place to go (we found a vast array of restaurants including a truly outstanding Lebanese and a fusion French/Colombian) and the Domaines for wine ( we visited Gratien & Meyer) are superb and you get to visit the vast tunnels under the cliffs and also taste (and buy probably!)

Magical place with lots to do.
Magical place with lots to do. Enjoyed the art museum and wandered around the grounds. Didn't know that there were beautiful places to eat and drink until we were walking around the grounds - wasn't flagged up and needs to be.
Absolutely loved the buildings but a lot to do in one visit. Could have taken a couple of days to see everything and enjoy the gardens.

Staff is wonderful, rooms adequate but beds in serious need of replacement. The TV in the room had English channels which was great and the location could not be better but the food via room service was appallingly bad.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning location.
Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Friendly, helpful staff. Room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Not a fan of the expensive breakfast that was ‘style over substance’ and couldn’t get WiFi to work. Overall pluses were so strong would recommend.
Free access to the historic, beautiful Abbey complex absolutely made our stay, especially the sound and light show at night.

I went to the new Art Exhibition and had to leave after seeing that. It was incredible and I wish I had been able to take more time.
I have visited the Abbey several times previously and love the place.

Such an unusual and gorgeous place to stay. Be sure and walk in the gardens on the o'clock as you will be treated to the beautiful sound of bell ringing from different bells dotted throughout the grounds. Truly amazing.
The hotel is beautiful and staff friendly and helpful. Strive hard to be eco-friendly with no plastic.
Didn't get to try the Mitchelin starred restaurant. It is only open Wednesday-Sunday and is fully booked months in advance.

This is as close to perfect as it gets for a small historic ‘hostelry’. Right opposite the gates of Fontevraud Abbey and totally in keeping with the ambience. Room 25 was superb, we loved it. Food was fabulous and the staff were lovely. We’ve been all over the world but for a small hotel this is as good as it gets.

Room was lovely - comfortable bed and good facilities. Although it was a Sunday night, we were able to eat a light meal at the hotel. Decent pool and added bonus of having the soap museum and factory at hand. Prices were a little expensive in the shop but lots of choice.

All staff were very helpful, cheerful and efficient. Room was lovely, air conditioning already on, bottles of water. Owner agreed I could leave at 3am and made sure some was there to help me. Outstanding service. Hotel is great location, right in centre of village

Everything, beautiful hotel with a wonderful bedroom.
Added bonus was the outdoor swimming pool.
Bistro restaurant was excellent as was the location next door to the abbey.
