The room was perfect for our stay while walking the Via Gebbenesis GR65. It had a comfortable bed, good shower, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. The breakfast was great! When I explained that we need to eat gluten free, the host provided fried eggs (plus yogurt, fresh fruit, and coffee). A great start to our walking day.

Compact town with a surprising range of shops and facilities...

Compact town with a surprising range of shops and facilities - given its location up in the hills. I was fascinated to learn more about the area’s history in WW2… and to discover the narrow gauge steam railway which runs through the town every Sunday. A great centre for visiting the famous areas of natural beauty - especially the volcanoes.

This village saved 2000 to 5000 refugees during WWII.

This village saved 2000 to 5000 refugees during WWII. They continue to shelter refugees. There was also important Resistance activity. And they don't talk about it. But there are wonderful museums about that era. We have a lot to learn from these humble people.

The name. In the centre of France, on the roof of the world, Hotel de la Plage. When I arrived, guests were embarking on a fishing trip. Curiously interesting but it is surviving, no, thriving 90 years after it was established. A hidden jewel well worth making a detour towards if you find yourself even 50km away.
