Modern hotel just a step from.the main station, which was the main reason we picked it. The rooms were spacious enough, clean with good service. The view (claimed as city view) could have been better - we saw just a building neighboring the hotel. Otherwise, walking distance everywhere in the city.

The place struck a perfect balance between comfort and value — cozy, spotless, and reasonably priced. Free parking and a pet-friendly policy made it especially convenient. For an additional €23, the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was absolutely worth it, offering an impressive spread that catered to every taste. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive or courteous. Overall, a seamless experience that I’d wholeheartedly recommend.

Art, Architecture and an Aqueduct!

A stately city just inland from France’s Mediterranean coast, Montpellier is capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, known for its wine production.

Place du Peyrou, the city’s highest point, has excellent views and has a wide boulevard down the middle of its park. Its west end has a triumphal arch overlooking a pool and on the other side is a magnificent, 18th-century aqueduct running as far as the eye can see.  To the north are France’s oldest botanical gardens, maintained by Montpellier University, one of the world’s oldest universities.

Rue du Bras de Fer is a narrow, medieval street with a secret sight through almost every portico, and another must-see is Place de la Comédie. This wide, pedestrian square is lined with street cafes and impressive buildings including the 19th-century opera house. Streets leading off contain high-end boutiques, while cheaper Montpellier shopping options are Le Polygone shopping center and the huge Odysseum leisure and shopping complex.

Other Montpellier sights include the 14th-century cathedral and the Antigone district with its grand Neo-Classical architecture. Also worth a look is the Musée Fabre art museum, and speaking of art, keep an eye out for the brightly decorated trams.

Before leaving your Montpellier hotel to go to Méditerranée Airport near the Cote d’Azur, sample some local seafood. The oysters are amazing!

We moved to Montpellier and were using Booking.com while looking for our long-term apartment. We love the city, the people, the vibe and the weather. The city is extremely easy to get around - it is very walkable and, for getting further out, the tram/bus system are fantastic! The only real issue we've seen is an increase in homeless lately. Unfortunately, this is a growing problem in a lot of cities and Montpellier is not immune to it. Having said that, Montpellier is still a very safe city and we love it here.

Beautiful old city, a wonderful place for a break. Great restaurants, shops, history.,and easy to walk around or take a tram. The beach is close by and 'chateau' Flaugergeau was lovely. Montpellier has a very nice ambience. You must visit!

24 hours in Montpellier was enough to give us a flavour of what was on offer - great restaurants, beautiful old buildings and streets around the Cathedral St Pierre and the Palace, a lovely atmosphere in the Place Comedy, generally a nice place to wander about.

Has a really nice vibe, friendly and felt safe at night. Nice shops, big chain stores in the Polygon and many back street independents, excellent. Many great looking restaurants and bars off main Place de la Comedie. We liked The Beehive... Fantastic fish and chips! Montpellier, a lovely lovely place with fabulous light and water (mini fountains) display after dark. Great walking through the back streets full of surprises.

Montpellier and the surrounding area are a popular destination for lovers of gastronomy. There is a wide array of offerings in every price range, from haute cuisine de France, to hearty Mexican, to exotic Georgian food that locals rave about. But of particular interest is the Museum, called the Fabre Museum, a very short walk from the centre of town. This is a museum that easily merits 3-4 hours of time. Many excellent pieces, a few important masterpieces (a Rubens, a Reynolds, a Guardi, a Poussin...); stunning sculptures. Even if you are not a frequent museum-goer and don't think of yourself as a connoisseur of fine arts: you will not regret the time you spend in this beautifully appointed museum, I promise.

Montpellier is a lively and interesting city with lots of good restaurants. Public transit is excellent with frequent tram service. Train station has frequent service to many destinations, including Spain. Lots of historic architecture. Would definitely visit again.
