FAQs about hotels in Orléans

The Heroine of the Loire Valley

If it weren’t for Joan of Arc, Orléans may not have become the beautiful city it is today. The teenage heroine of France liberated the city during the Hundred Years War, a fact commemorated with a May festival and a statue of her on horseback in a large square (well, hexagon).

From Joan’s former house nearby, a road leads to Sainte-Croix Cathedral. Arriving from this direction, the cathedral appears somewhat overshadowed by terraced buildings, until you step out into its square and realise what an incredible structure it is.

To the north is the fine art museum and in the opposite direction are the shops, restaurants and bars of Rue de Bourgogne. Place du Châtelet houses more shops, overlooked by narrow half-timbered buildings. Just south, historic Georges V Bridge crosses the fast-flowing Loire River, connecting the historic centre with modern suburbs.

South of the river are the Parc des Expos and Zenith d’Orléans event centres, while further away is the Parc Floral de la Source – gardens centred on the source of the Loiret River. Even further south is the tranquil Sologne forest, while to the west the Loire passes many wonderful castles.

As well as Loire Valley accommodation, Booking.com offers luxury Orléans hotels, cheap B&Bs and apartments near the train station.

What a gem in France's crown.

What a gem in France's crown. Lovely city with so many unexpected features. From the beautiful Cathedral to the gentle meander of the river, it was a pleasure to explore. The main square was bustling late into the summer evening with lots for locals and tourists to do. The cafe and restaurants were lively and we found a particularly good one right beside the river. Orleans is steeped in history and just waiting to be explored some more.

Orléans is a lovely city which we enjoyed immensely. We made good use of the trams to get arround the city and trains to visit neighbouring towns such as Blois and Tours. We were there when the May 8th festival commemorating both the ending of the siege of Orléans in 1429 and the ending of WW2 in Europe. The procession was wonderful. The local people were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay. Finally we don't drive in Europe and if we did the two week stay would have been even more enjoyable.

We just had half a day in Orleans. The cathedral was lovely, as was the city square where the statue of Joan of Arc is located. It was immaculately clean. Some amazing buildings. We will be back for a longer visit.

This city is a hidden gem, a medieval village with great shopping, lovely cafes, and restaurants. It’s steeped in history and serves as an excellent starting point to explore the Loire Valley. I’ve taken cycling trips, visited nearby castles, and explored vineyards.

Located on the banks of the Loire River, Orléans is a historic city known for its strong connection to Joanne d'Arc, who famously liberated it in 1429. I stayed overnight on my way back to Calais.

I stayed overnight on my way back to Calais. I wish that I had spent a day or two exploring Orleans. There was so much character and history in the city. Also, the walks along the riverside looked beautiful. I will definitely come back for a longer time to experience more that this city has to offer. Try talking along the Rue du Faubourg de Bourgogne. There are some amazing buildings and a vast array of small eateries and bars. And the well-worn cobbled streets seem to take you back in time. So much to see.

After a long hot drive from South of France the pool was so welcome, and refreshing. Comfy beds. Sofa beds were two single beds - which pleased the children! For us it was a one night stopover on our drive back to UK. Book dinner somewhere if not eating at the hotel! We didn’t and couldnt get in anywhere (with two hungry children was not fun) ‘Well In Town’ looked excellent but no chance without a reservation. The staff at the hotel were wonderful. So helpful and professional. Breakfast was delicious too and kids eat free.

Really well placed for easy access to Orleans old town and the central square. Underground parking at associated central carpark less than 5mins easy walk from the hotel. We had a family room that was set up well and dog friendly. We chose not to eat at the hotel as we wanted to eat in some of the local restaurants in order to fully appreciate the beautiful city. Some may say that the décor was a little old but the hotel is not pretending to be modern chic - it was clean, comfy and charmingly individual.
