We had a wonderful family stay in Prades in July 2026.

We had a wonderful family stay in Prades in July 2026. The location was beautiful and peaceful, with stunning scenery all around. It was the perfect place to relax and spend quality time together. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming, and we really enjoyed exploring the town and the surrounding area. We made some fantastic family memories and would happily return. Highly recommended!

Apart from the music festival in July, Prades is an attractive town with a buzzing local culture - dance and music. It is well placed in the valley linking the coast to the higher Pyrenees and Andorra. Plenty of monasteries, castles and little villages to visit with walking options. You can also catch the Petit Train Jaune at neighbouring Villefranche.

Prades is a beautiful, authentic and very local village, with a charming atmosphere and a true sense of everyday life. It feels genuine and welcoming, with good food, small restaurants and a very pleasant environment to stay in. The area around Prades is extremely rich and varied, and it is perfect for a short stay to explore nature, villages and mountains. From here we visited Vernet-les-Bains and Les Angles, which offer great options for hiking and nature. We also went to Mont-Louis and Villefranche-de-Conflent, both very special historical villages full of character, as well as the Fort Liberia, which is impressive and worth the visit. One of the highlights of the region was the Yellow Train experience, which is a very scenic and unique way to discover the surroundings and enjoy the landscape. What surprised us most was how accessible everything is, even without a car. Public transport is very convenient and affordable, with buses costing around 1–2 euros, which makes it easy to move around and visit different places comfortably. Overall, a very complete destination: nature, culture, history and a very authentic village atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.

The very best for me were the stunning house gardens.

The very best for me were the stunning house gardens. A dream for solo travellers and couples. The local restaurants in the pretty village were a 10 minute walk away and provided many choices for various budgets and pallets. Only complaint was the huge, but very tasty , portions (not a place to visit if you want to lose weight). I was not unsatisfied with anything at all. Activities for solo travellers? The garden, the calm, the pool, the tennis court, the local art and music festivals, the restaurants, the local nature walks, the proximity to many and various points of historical and cultural interest, a kitchen in your apartment if you wish, a shaded veranda somewhere around the house all day. Even when fully booked I felt as though I had a peaceful time, quite undisturbed except for an interesting conversation with my neighbour who was a professional avant guard bassoonist (you don't meet many of those around). Just go there and be satisfied.

The high point of our visit was our accommodation followed...

The high point of our visit was our accommodation followed by a journey on the Yellow Train through the Pyrenees and site seeing the ancient churches and other architecture such as the Vauban city of Villefranche. One small warning: we chose to visit before temperatures become too hot (good) but we then found pine pollen was at it's height (not so good!) otherwise, Prades is recommended!

A good central location to explore the Pyrenees only being...

A good central location to explore the Pyrenees only being c40 minutes from Perpignan airport and 1 hour to Collioure. Some restaurants were only open at weekends, but there were 2 reasonably good ones open every day. Also about 1 hour to drive to Mont Louis. Very good market on a Wednesday for local foods etc.

Beautiful old house, very comfortable and welcoming. We had one of the front rooms with large veranda and fabulous views of the mountains. The room was spacious, bed comfortable, large bathroom, all very clean with quirky decorations. The breakfast was generous, with a wide choice. Lots of places to sit, both inside and outside in the garden. Lovely swimming pool. Quiet but only 5 minutes walk from Prades centre. Would highly recommend, and we would love to come back.

Nadia was an excellent host. Very keen to please and help with our stay in Prades. The accommodation was very comfortable and spacious with unusual, but very pleasing decorations. The breakfasts were very good with a good selection. Nadia made us feel very welcome and almost part of her family and she even baked a birthday cake for me!

A fantastic hotel with a beautiful view of the Canigou. A lovely pool and a great breakfast. What makes this place extra special are the charming hosts, Bruno and Alex. They could not have been been more welcoming and helpful. Genuinely lovely people!
