It's a beautiful place to visit in the day, shops, cafe,...
It's a beautiful place to visit in the day, shops, cafe, Museum, car parking, clean and also has a market on certain days. The town goes very quiet in the evenings, not many places stay open past 8pm. It's lovely that they place a dummy American parachutist on the church in memory on the actual event all those years ago.

Bizarre that all but 2 restaurants were closed during what is undoubtedly a peak tourist period over the D-Day celebration period. Just be aware that from 6-9th June there is very little available after 1800hrs.

Sainte Mere Eglise is a key place to visit if you want D Day...
Sainte Mere Eglise is a key place to visit if you want D Day experiences, with the great Airborne Museum and the church with a dummy of the parachutist who literally hung about there for 2 hours before being cut down. A range of bars, places to eat and souvenir shops.

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND "LE NEPTUNE" FOR A COUPLE, ABOUT 2 KM FROM THE TOWN CENTER.
THERE ARE ALSO A FEW BASIC HOTELS IN THE TOWN SQUARE.
Sainte-Mère-Église IS A VERY NICE TOWN. THE MUSEUMS IN THE AREA ARE OUTSTANDING. PLAN ON ONE DAY PER MUSEUM; THERE MUST BE AT LEAST 8 WELL-DONE MUSEUMS, EACH OFFERING A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. THE FALIASE GAP MUSEUM IS WELL WORTH THE EXTRA DRIVING TIME. THE UTAH BEACH MUSEUM IS INDEED RIGHT ON THE BEACH. ARROMANCHE MUSEUM IS AN EASY DRIVE FROM Sainte-Mère-Église. THE PONT DU HOC REQUIRES ABOUT 1 HOUR OF HIKING/WALKING TO SEE THE EMPLACEMENT SITES.
IN Sainte-Mère-ÉgliseTHERE IS A SMALL GROCERY STORE (EPICERIE) JUST OFF THE TOWN SQUARE. PAY PARKING READILY AVAILABLE. THIS IS A WALKING TOWN. POST OFFICE IS IN CENTRAL PART OF TOWN, BUT HAS LIMITED HOURS. LOTS OF "MILITARY SURPLUS" STORES IN Sainte-Mère-Église.

It is a small town with a focus on its liberation by the US...
It is a small town with a focus on its liberation by the US during World War II. It is pretty to walk around and has a nice park to sit and watch the world go by. It has most shops for everyday living; food shops, chemist, bakery, clothes and plenty of restaurants and coffee houses. It has a weekly Farmers Market with fresh local produce. The people and are very friendly and helpful.

Quite honestly, I was drawn to Saint Mere Eglise because it was the station point for a D-Day tour my dad and I had booked. I had no clue the charm and history of this little town!
The food was great everywhere we went, the museum was incredible, the people were so, so kind, the list goes on!
This is definitely a hidden gem of Normandy. We visited Utah Beach on our tour, and it was packed tight with tourists. After hearing other people's experiences in Normandy, I was so glad we stayed in such a quaint town.
11/10 -- exceeded our expectations.

An absolutely beautifully updated traditional French property. The room was large with a lovely view over the street leading to the town square. The hotel also features a lovely restaurant with great food. The location is perfect, and all the town amenities are easily walkable. Finally, and most importantly, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Highly, highly recommended.

A lovely setting, very friendly staff. We asked for advice on where we could eat, the hotel staff not only recommended somewhere but they booked our table for us. We just stayed one night but would definitely return.
