For our first time in Cardiff we chose this hotel mainly for its central location and it being within walking distance from the main spots. The room was super comfy and the staff always willing to help. Checkin and checkout process was amazingly easily. We also had breakfast in the hotel itself and there is a good variety of dishes available.

FAQs about hotels in Cardiff

The Pride of Wales

Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.

Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.

From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Centre, shopping in Cardiff is a delight. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants in which to rest awhile. Those by Cardiff Bay offer particularly pleasant views.

Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre. Another year 2000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and football matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.

Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city centre.

It is like a typical city, very busy, very crowded but lively and friendly. There plenty of sites to visit especially historical. As we had own transport we did not try the public transport system. St David shopping Centre is a big plus for the town centre. The university had not closed for holidays yet and so the streets in the town centre are busy, but tolerable.

Cardiff is a great place to visit and stay in and works on many different levels. It's small enough to navigate within time constraints, but big enough to be vibrant and accommodating. When so much of the UK seems to have an aura of recession, it feels like it's booming. The magic lies in the fact it's an administrative, cultural, and sports capital of a distinct country. Therefore, it has a lot to offer a wide audience, whether great shopping, access to a stunning part of the world (coastal, rural, post-industrial, scenic), educational, cultural, gastronomic/pubs, or sports-oriented.

I felt safe walking around St Mary's Street, looking at all the arcades. Staff in restaurants were very friendly. Great tour of rooms in the castle. Loved the art gallery. The day tour to the Wye Valley and the Brecon Beacons was informative. Only 4 in the group so plenty of chances to ask questions. The National Museum contained many pieces of wonderful art. Cardiff Bay was a surprise, especially finding the Parliament House there.

I went to Cardiff for a 50 year university reunion and it certainly is now a different city. The many arcades have been wonderfully renovated and there are many interesting shops and eateries. There seems to be a renewed pride in Wales and it was great to see tourism being developed around many things Welsh. Whilst there are many new modern buildings and facades much of the original architecture has been and is being restored and there are some fabulous buildings. A fair bit of drunkeness in the streets after dark which is a shame but not unique to Cardiff. Well worth a weekend trip.

We enjoyed the 'party' atmosphere in the main street on Saturday. Hen and Stag do's, families, all age groups. It was a very crowded place. It made people watching a delight for oldies like us. Sunday was only slightly quieter. The main street is packed with restaurants and cafes and the Arcades are worth exploring. So many beautiful buildings with stacks of history. The Cardiff Castle tour was informative and fascinating with the opulence and the Museum a very varied experience with lots of fun interaction for kids.

Location excellent for Cardiff city centre and stadium is very close you don’t need a taxi (you can see it at the end of the street). Nice host who helped us with parking and direction as the roads near by had been closed due to the stadium event. Local places to get food and petrol station close by for late night shop. Bedding was very clean, possibly new, good wifi and tv.
