Really nice comfortable stay. Spacious room, nicely decorated, with a big comfortable bed and a clean, modern ensuite bathroom. Lots of options provided to make yourself a cuppa which was appreciated. Easy self check in and self check out. Lovely communicative host. A few continental breakfast items available in the room - please note the cafe downstairs (independent from the guesthouse) has pretty limited hours so early risers need not plan to eat breakfast there

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through The Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.

York should advertise more to Americans.

York should advertise more to Americans. Most people that I know did not ever hear of the city. Especially now with Harry Potter, the Shambles would be an excellent way to connect with Daigon Alley in the book series. We also had a very difficult time knowing how to find an entrance to the wall in order to walk around it for a bit. We expended so much energy looking for an entrance, that we had to omit some other sites.

I love York. I find it hard to give a negative review here.

I love York. I find it hard to give a negative review here. The location is great 2.5 hours by train from Edinburgh and 2 hours to London. Lots of history, on a river, parks, restaurants, cafes, bus tours, boats, people are very friendly. York is a very easy city to walk around always something to take up your interest. I love the Minster, the York Castle Museum, seen a couple of shows in the York Theatre Royal, the Treasurers House and lovely garden is definitely a must to visit. Great shops. I often eat at Drakes Fish and Chips and you can have a glass of wine there too. Pizza Express is another favourite as you get a lovely view of the river. If you travel with friends, family or solo you will have a fabulous time.

York is a lovely city with a multitude of things to do.

York is a lovely city with a multitude of things to do. We did the key things in three days, and we really enjoyed the city - the museums, the old town and the food market. It also seemed very safe to us, notwithstanding that one has to be a little vigilant always, as a tourist especially. The Minster is amazing. We went on one of the free tours and it was worth the time it took. We also really enjoyed the Jorvik Viking museum and the York Castle tower was alright - it offers nice views. We walked around most of the walls, which was a fun little thing to do and in between everything there are fun shops, good food and treats and plenty of drinks to be had. On the last day we went to the National Railway Museum. We were positively surprised by the excellent state in which we found the railway material to be. It was a fun and interesting visit, not least the Shinkansen 0 series front car which is open to enter.

York was lively.

York was lively. Plenty to do here and we would consider a longer stay next time. Lovely down by the riverside in the sun after a few hours sightseeing. Took in a show , the Ballad of Johnny Cash and June Carter at the Grand Opera theatre which was very enjoyable. Enjoyed Barley Hall visit and will seek out other similar places, of which there are plenty, for future visits. Eating options were plentiful and quite varied, which was good. Overall, York is an excellent place to spend time.

We have visited for many years York. If you're looking for 5 star...go pay double at other hotels...we have. But Raddison is best placed hotel in centre of York with actual parking. Plus, hotel and staff unreal for value. Brekkie so well worth it compared to bothering to walk to Bills in town etc. Staff are so lovely, proper real personalities who actually do enjoy their work and offer so much professionalism and authenticity...a credit to Raddison. Back again very soon. Room 433 x

We stayed as a couple for my boyfriend’s birthday and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay for our visit to York. Our room was so stunning, spotlessly clean and decorated beautifully, the hotel itself is gorgeous and such a short walk to the city centre and train station. The staff from check in to check out were so friendly and helpful. We will 100% be back in the future, cannot fault a single thing.
