Good beaches.

Good beaches. Bars, restaurants, parking, showers, restrooms all available, and reasonably priced (or free). Athens is about 2,5-3 hours drive, Voidokilia is about 1,5 hours. The airport is small, but OK. Visit Kastraki restaurant if you can.

The sea here was incredibly warm.

The sea here was incredibly warm. The sea front is long and has many restaurants behind the beach. Most loungers and umbrellas were free as long as you purchased food and/or drink. The beach is a mix of sand and small stones and the sea drop off not too steep. The historic area is quite a long walk from the front. Buses are good and cheap. There was no sign of a timetable and maybe we were lucky but I don't think we ever waited more than 15 minutes for one. Hotels with a pool seem few but the Hotel Elite at the eastern end of the beachfront had a huge, absolutely stunning pool. Nice and deep if you like to dive in. As it is for the beach, the sunbeds and umbrellas are free to use if you buy drink and/or food. The number 1 bus gets you there. That same bus goes close to Hotel Aso and onwards to the historic district on its return journey. Kalamata is a great location for visiting the peninsulars either side. I'd especially recommend visiting Stoupa in the east and in the west the Polilimnio waterfalls, Pilos (aka Pylos) and Methoni.

The beach, of course, and the fact that we were staying...

The beach, of course, and the fact that we were staying right across from the beach. But the bus service was excellent, getting us up into the old town and, when we left, back to the bus station. Kalamata seems large and sprawling but very much alive, with plenty to do and see. Much history. Of course, Kalamata is the starting station for so many special places along the coast in both directions.

It is a small town and easy to get around ,beach was quite far from central but I would LV to come back and explore with a car and I do prefer sand to pebbles ,LV the clean ,no flies ice cream parlours and no dog mess on streets,the slower pace of life and kind and helpful people ,U make me believe in the world again

Kalamata is a local hub in a rich, fertile, agricultural...

Kalamata is a local hub in a rich, fertile, agricultural area. Our group of 4 ranged from 27 to 57 years old and found Kalamata was a great place to catch our breath and relax, surrounded by beautiful restaurants, bars and walks. Nearby towns boast magnificent castles, seaside views and azure blue waters. Not too far from Mount Olympia, Spartica and car hire was easy. Driving was easy as the roads are not busy in April and the main roads are exceptional, thanks to investment in infrastructure by the EU. Local drivers are patient and everyone drives slowly and cautiously around busy parts of town. I enjoyed the best Pizza I've ever eaten on the bayside walk. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and I was truly sad to leave.

Kalamata is a well organized city with parks in the middle...

Kalamata is a well organized city with parks in the middle of downtown. Great for families with young children. Several cultural events take place i.e. we attended a documentary festival. The part of the city by the sea has its own life. During the olive picking period, it attracts many of the olive grove owners, who do not necessarily reside in Kalamata. The city is very friendly to visitors.Public parking in the middle of the city provides convenient parking.

The hotel is like a huge garden, everything is so green. Even around the pool there are no tiles like everywhere, but a lawn. And sunbeds are hidden under the olive trees. The service staff is very kind and nice. Especially the girl Nataly, who recommended us a lot of nice things to try on the spot in Kalamata. This was the rare occasion when the hotel was better than I expected.

This was one of the best places we've stayed in Greece! Eleni was a great host. This house had everything you need, washing machine, parking, plenty of space, and a fully equipped kitchen. It had things you wouldn't find anywhere else like a first aid kit in the washroom. Eleni even brought us some fresh figs, which were delicious! I would stay here again 100%

Excellent clean, spacious, luxury apartment with all the facilities to make it feel like home. The best place we have stayed at during our 2 months in Greece and we would highly recommend. To top it off there is a cafe below that make a fabulous freddo cappuccino.
