The absolute best hotel by far I have stayed at for the last 7 weeks here in Sri Lanka. We treated ourselves and stayed in the lovely Northgate steps from train station. The rooms were huge, modern super clean with everything you need. Service was exceptional! A shout out to our amazing room service person: Kajinthiran, who made our room perfect everyday. I love his many towel animals he made for us. Another shout out to Kajeepan who attended to our needs at the bar/restaurant. The managers were very friendly always making sure we were happy. One of the manager even tried to arrange a cooking demo for me with the chef at the hotel restaurant. The food at the hotel restaurant was most delicious too. We also loved the fact that it was close to another bar and other great restaurants nearby. It was worth every penny!

It is a nice and quiet modern hotel with good facilities. The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed and pillows. There is a fridge in the room and and tea making facilities in the lounge area outside the room. We were given two small bottles of water on arrival. The shower works well with good hot water, once you get it adjusted properly. There is a shower screen too, but like all bathrooms in Sri Lanka the bathroom floor still gets wet. The air conditioner works well and the room also has a large ceiling fan. The hotel is well located just 1.6 kilometers from Jaffna Fort and about a kilometre from the rooftop bar at the Jaffna Jetwing Hotel. Breakfast was not included but is available, we did not have breakfast at the hotel. All in all a good place to stay.

Jaffna is a must visit, even if it may not be a polished...

Jaffna is a must visit, even if it may not be a polished tourist destination, like Galle. Jaffna has a unique old world charm, her strong cultural heritage is evident in the food, dress, architecture and palmyra dotted landscape. The beaches have a sleepy feel to them... nobody trying to sell you trinkets or sarongs, the Jaffna Fort is immaculate and impressive and the sunset paints the sky as you drive down the causeway to the islands. Traffic is not an issue, except around the bus stand. Sadly, most of the fantastic mango varieties that Jaffna was once famous for have disappeared, with the only survivor being the iconic Karthkolamban. In their place, we saw heaps of Rambuttan and Mangosteen from the South and Citrus from Pakistan.

I love Jaffna and the people.

I love Jaffna and the people. Many cultural, historical and religious places to visit. Jaffna library, Jaffna Fort, Nallur Kandasamy Temple, Naaguleswaram temple, Sakkotai Point, Karainagar, beaches etc.

Jaffna is an up and coming tourist location. it has a lot of culture and caracter. We visited many places and should have been there for a couple of more days. Jaffna food is a class by itself. Try authentical places like JAC.

Sadly Jaffna reflects Southern India in the way it presents itself. The town and whole peninsular is dirty with rubbish everywhere. Southern Sri Lanka has really got its act together since we last visited 35 years ago and is tidy, clean and very tourist focused. Jaffna is obviously a poorer part of the island but if it wants to get in on the tourist act it needs to reduce plastic waste, clean up as they go (we watched a teenager throw his ice cream wrapper on the floor in front of us...no pride in his environment) and understand that shitty tourist sights will not attract tourists. The fort car park was diabolical with broken glass etc all over the ground. Environment is key to everything in the 21st century.

Jaffna is a place of potential but really needs a lot of...

Jaffna is a place of potential but really needs a lot of money still to be thrown at it to bring it up to a good standard. It's possible to walk around the city but many of the walkways are substandard and either shared with traffic or are very rough with deep holes, so keep your eyes open! The people were all very friendly and helpful so no problems there. There are still a limited number of places to eat and drink in the city and other than the expensive Jetwing it was difficult to find somewhere to have a beer and a nice meal. Public transport is very cheap and great fun to use, especially if you want to interact with the local people. Tuctucs are also very cheap.

Authenticity. Different to the rest of Sri lanka. Lovely people. Great little archeological museum. Went to Delft, really good experience coming back on a boat singing with several Sri Lankan families!

The booking was very last minute but once we arrived the staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome. The initial booking was for 1 night but the hotel staff made it very easy when I requested for an additional night. The breakfast included was splendid, no faults at all. Will definitely book this place when I come back to Jaffna.

I had a really good stay at Gnanams Hotel at an affordable price. It was truly worth it. The receptionist was excellent, and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this hotel because of its great location and fresh new look. I will always choose Gnanams Hotel whenever I visit Jaffna again.

Hotel room and bathroom were really clean and a great size too. Clean towels and water bottles were provided in the room. Cute garden with fairy lights in the night creates a really nice atmosphere! Fantastic hotel at a great location. It's about 40 mins from the airport, but very close to all the tourist attractions in Jaffna. The staff are simply amazing - so kind and helpful.
